DISTANCE LEARNING:
On March 16, Ponderosa High School shifted to distance learning. Since then, students have been contacted by each of their teachers with regard to how instruction will continue. Many departments shifted to Edgenuity and login information was immediately shared. Your student login is your PHS email with the entire eduhsd.k12.ca.us and your password is the first letter of your first name (capitalized) and your entire last name (with the first letter capitalized). If I were a student, my password would be ALuna. Please DO NOT change your edgenuity password. English, Science, Modern Language and Algebra 1 can be found in Edgenuity. I track student progress in Edgenuity daily and frequently send emails within the program. The other courses stayed in google classroom. If you experience difficulty accessing a google classroom please notify the teacher directly. I do not have access to everyone's google classroom, so I check Aeries daily to look for progress. I realize juggling 7 classes is a challenge. Each student will need to set aside regular work time in order to be successful. I recommend working in 30-45 minute increments and setting a timer. When the timer goes off, you should get up and move around the room, have a snack, change your environment for a few minutes and the return to work. Most subjects have assigned 25-30 hours of work to be completed by the end of the year. That is roughly 1 hour a day/5 days a week for each class. If you need help managing this time, I am here to help. Our Zoom meetings are every Tuesday and Thursday from 3-4 pm. I appreciate you joining the meeting so that we can check on each other, answer questions, reduce stress, and foster success. You should also be attending Zoom meetings for each of your classes. The meeting schedules are as follows:
Mondays - English
Tuesdays - Math and Connections from 3-4
Wednesdays - Health/ICT
Thursdays - Science and Connections from 3-4
Fridays - PE, Modern Language and all electives
(Times are determined by individual teachers)
Some students had internet access issues that made continuing online impossible. In that case, packets were provided until 3/31 to replace online learning. Each teacher has a process for accessing and grading packets so please communicate with them individually. Many of you who can't complete a course online can still join a zoom meeting via your phone and receive support.
At present, some of you are doing an amazing job of juggling your classes. I see you spreading your time out equally between courses. Others of you are unfortunately avoiding certain classes (most often the ones you find most challenging). Some of you have not even logged in to Edgenuity yet. Please stop doing this. In the next 6 weeks you have an amazing opportunity to raise your grades and pass your classes. Because of the unique situation the country finds itself in, students will have the opportunity to receive letter grades A-F or Pass/No Pass. If students can buckle down, spend time on their computers or with their packets 60% is not an impossibility and 60% is a pass in all subjects except Math (70%) and ICT (65%). The distractions are gone. We are in our houses for hours at a time and 6 hours a day/5 days a week is not an outrageous investment in your future.
Get to work. And as always, let me know how I can help.
